Welcome to The Red Door and our New Website!

For the uninitiated, we are a youth sexual health and support centre located in Kentville, Nova Scotia. We’re a non-profit, community-based organization and we’ve been providing confidential health services and education to youth ages 13-30 for over 20 years.

In 2018 the Red Door was the recipient of the 100 Women Who Care campaign. We were very fortunate to have Dr. Christa Mindrum recommend the Red Door for this generous grant, where Meaghan Marsters and Kaleigh Skinner presented on behalf of the Red Door to the group of 100 women. Through this initiative, three local organizations are short-listed to give a five-minute presentation to the group and the successful organization is then awarded a grant based on the 100 women who have pledged one hundred dollars each. This is a meaningful opportunity for local women to support organizations that run and maintain amazing grassroots programs, like the Red Door Youth Health & Support Centre.

Thanks to the generosity of the 100 Women who care, and also to our local donors, we’ve been able to continue working in our community to provide a safe and confidential environment for youth to seek health services and support. We’re also proud of the new supports we’ve been able to provide for the Trans community, as demands for services have rapidly increased.

So far in 2019, we’ve had almost 500 clients take advantage of our walk-in service or make appointments with our doctors. And while women ages 20-24 represent the largest demographic of those we serve, there has been a significant increase in the number of trans clients seeking services with us. So far in 2019, 30% of our clients have been trans youth seeking health and community supports.

We’ve also had the pleasure of welcoming two new staff members this year, Michelle Allen (LPN) and Erin Eavis (administrative assistant).

Donor Spotlight

In addition to thanking the 100 Women who care, the Red Door and its members would also like to recognize the generosity of The Annapolis Cider Company, who selected the Red Door earlier this year as the recipient of their charitable in-house initiative, which donates $0.50 from every bottle of their “Something Different” cider to a local cause.

“Donating part of the proceeds from our Something Different cider sales allows us to recognize the great work that organizations do within our community, and this is certainly the case with The Red Door.  Their staff and volunteers have created a safe environment to support and provide resources to our youth and young adults for decades.”

Thanks to their delicious “Storm Cider,” the Red Door received a sizable donation, for which we are very grateful. Head down to their location at 388 Main Street in Wolfville to see what’s on tap today, and who they’ll be supporting next!

If you’d like to support The Red Door, we’d be happy to count you among our wonderfully generous donors so we can continue to expand the services we provide to the young members of our community who are in need. You can make a personal donation, have your company sponsor us, or hold a fundraiser in our name.

To make a donation, we accept Cheques or Money Orders made out to The Red Door, or you can use our Charitable Donation number: 894573684RR0001. Thanks so much for your continued support!
